Artiste: Junior Kelly + the All Star Choir (Jenieve Bailey | Suzanne Couch | Carlene Davis | Chevelle Franklyn | Pam Hall | Una Morgan | Nadine Sutherland)
The first of the two Juniors to record on the track, Junior Kelly, arrived at Harry J Studio in the afternoon and sat outside for a while, shaded by a mango tree. He was engaging Handel, Ramona and Andrew in a deep discussion about Haiti, a country that he had known and loved. Haiti's recent disastrous earthquake had actually prevented a brief visit he had planned to make to the country, so this project had a special and personal meaning to him.
Junior Kelly shared that he liked the lyrics of 'Listen 2 the Call' and felt it was a great song; he liked how it made him feel. He entered the recording booth with that strong connection to the project and wrote and recorded some words that came to him for catchy hook, adding his own personal flavour to the track. Next up: The All-Star Choir! Unprecedented! Never before seen! Whodathunk! A few words that came to mind while looking at the all-star choir closely gathered around one mic: Jenieve Bailey, Suzanne Couch, Carlene Davis, Chevelle Franklyn, Pam Hall, Una Morgan and Nadine Sutherland. Seven signature female voices of Jazz, Dancehall, Gospel and Reggae were directed by the harmony genius herself, Pam Hall. What with the cameras, the lively chatter and individual rehearsals, it got pretty hot up in that booth! But once Steven gave the cue, the ladies were back on point and ready to deliver. The interesting part was how the ladies conversed between takes, as if they'd worked together for years even though some had not seen each other for just as long. They enjoyed the familiarity of mutual respect. There were no divas, just talented women (dressed in black), white smiles and the excitement of being part of something great.
